The Confederation of Indian Industry, supported by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, and Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, will host the 9th edition of its flagship event, the CII Bio-Energy Summit 2019 on 23 September 2019 at Sovereign Hall, Le Méridien, New Delhi.
The one-day Summit, themed ‘Farm2Fuel: Building India’s Bio-Economy’, will focus on the entire value chain from producers to end-consumers, and cover policy initiatives and industry action on financing, biofuel options, workforce and enterprise development, and emerging technologies.
Topics will include biofuel demand estimation and aggregation; feedstock sources, generation, processing and conversion; storage and transportation, and retail distribution to public vehicles as well as major consumers such as freight and aviation.
India’s ambition to reduce 10% fossil fuel imports by 2022 and its commitment to meet its Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 depends significantly on achieving a cleaner fuel mix for industry, domestic consumers, and transportation. Biofuels are a major viable alternative, offering easy blending with conventional fuels, lower GHG emissions, and a number of feedstock choices, including recyclables such as waste food and grains, agri-residue, UCO, and municipal waste. A robust bioeconomy will provide additional income options for farmers and has great potential to develop rural/semi-urban biomass-based communities, providing direct and indirect livelihood to millions.
